It is never too early to start thinking about anti aging. Often, younger women are mistakenly told that anti-aging serums are only necessary once they reach middle age, and middle-aged women are worried about seeming old if they start buying anti-aging products.
The truth is, it’s best to start maintaining a youthful appearance while you still have it. However, if you feel like you are late to the game, don’t worry. There are still plenty of short-term and long-term ways to restore your youth. Keep reading for three ways to anti-age your face overnight.
1. Know Your Ingredients
This is the most important way to achieve a younger, youthful look. There are shelves of products out there that claim to be anti-aging, but not all of them are formulated equally. One of the most important age-fighting ingredients is vitamin A, also known as retinol or retinoid. It can help boost collagen production and fight free radical damage, which includes smoothing wrinkles and fine lines, as well as fading sun damage.
Another powerful anti-aging ingredient is vitamin C. When used regularly, vitamin C complements vitamin A by providing extra antioxidant power, helping to boost collagen production, reducing skin irritation and even making your sunscreen more effective. Vitamin C comes in many different forms and strengths, so anyone can find a formulation suited to their skin.
2. Find An Eye Cream
Yes, a designated moisturizer for the skin around your eyes is necessary. Eye creams are more emollient than other face creams, meaning they spread easily and don’t tug the thin, delicate skin around your eyes. They also tend to be more hydrating and occlusive. Occlusive creams ensure that moisture stays trapped against the thin skin of your eyes, which allows wrinkles to be plumped up more effectively.
To make it even more effective, gently tap a few drops of anti aging serum into the skin underneath your eyes before applying cream under them. The moisturizer will trap the serum against your skin along with the moisture, allowing it to penetrate better and be more effective.
3. Apply Sunscreen Like It’s Your Job
Sunscreen is your best friend when it comes to fighting off the signs of aging. The sun can cause a lot of damage and make your skin look decades older than it is. UV damage is responsible for premature wrinkles, unsightly brown spots, sagging skin and making your complexion look dull or sallow. Look for a sunscreen that provides both UVA and UVB protection, because both are necessary to keep your skin looking young and healthy.
The FDA recommends a one-quarter teaspoon of sunscreen to adequately protect your face and at least that much to protect your neck and ears. Grab a sunscreen with an SPF rating of at least 30, and be sure to reapply as the day goes on.
Maintaining a youthful appearance takes time and diligence, but these three tips will help your skin look fresher and younger overnight.
